



























From 1976 to 2005, Englishman and the Shango Band have remained popular on the reggae scene
locally, nationally. As a session recording and live performing Band (Artist).
Englishman and the Shango Band are no strangers to the entertainment business. Over the past several
years; they have performed at various functions throughout the world. The Shango band has performed on
stage with many great artist such as, Ras Michael, Mikey Dread, The Itals, Isreal Vibration, Eric Donaldson,
Gregory Issacs, Toots, Culture, Don Carlos and Black Uhuru to name a few.
Beautiful harmonious sounds fill each venue with strong spiritual messages conveyed each time you
experience this magical performance. Singing about real life, past and current world issues coupled with
an enjoyable combination of smooth lover’s edged tunes mixed with harder more heartfelt "true" roots
tunes. Shango bands all encompassing sound is composed with a very strong instrumental backing along
with thoughtful, truthful and righteous song writing.
Winning numerous awards for "Best Reggae Band 2001 at the DC’s annual Reggae Music awards, the
band’s bass player, lead singer, songwriter and producer, Englishman spent many years in England as a
youth. He also received the "Wammie" (Washington area Music Awards) in 1989 for best male vocalist, in
1990 for the best Instrumentalist. In 1991 he received three and two in 1992.
He has been a master artist in DC folk’s art program for The Commission on the Arts and Humanities.
Other members of the Shango band also performed with reggae greats throughout the world. Band
members include: Eric (Spidukie) McDermott (drummer/singer) and Jackson (professor) Briscoe, a
Graduate of Howard University and M.I.T. where he studied mathematics and classical music.
The Shango band performes at many Universities, night clubs, International events, Europe and the United
States. Their live performance keeps the audience electrified and up beat, feeling positive and Irie.
Englishman and the Shango band recorded their latest C.D. in Iceland while completing their European
tour.
